At CCPS, I co-authored reading and writing benchmarks used by the county, and co-developed a research-based companion guide for each document.  I also facilitated county-wide and school-based workshops as well as served as the facilitator for an Instructional Consultation Team.  After I left, I was invited back to CCPS to tailor an Instructional Support Process for all twenty two elementary schools to implement as teachers are supported in best practice instruction for all learners.

As a literacy consultant, I facilitate workshops and coach teachers, administrators, and parents on a variety of topics which can be tailored to meet your needs.  For more information click the "Topics" button to the left.

What's new? I have been very busy writing, writing, writing, and publishing! I recently published an article in IRA's Journal of Content Area Reading entitled "Informational Overload in Content Area Reading: A Professional Development Plan for Middle and High School Teachers."  I co-authored a chapter for the edited book: "Information Technology and Constructivism in Higher Education." Our chapter is entitled "Using Blogs to Foster Inquiry, Collaboration, and Feedback in Pre-Service Teacher Education."  And my book is still a hot item at Corwin Press Check out the latest and greatest resource to enhance your comprehension strategy instruction!

Welcome! You must also be interested in literacy!  I have a passion for teaching, writing, and literacy.  I want children to grow into successful readers and writers.

I was a classroom teacher and Integrated Language Arts Specialist for Carroll County Public Schools, Westminster, Maryland for eight years.  Currently, I teach in the Education Department at Gettysburg College, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.  Most recently I am completing my PhD in Special Education and Literacy, where I plan to focus my research in the areas of change when implementing new policy, specifically, evidence-based reading interventions for at-risk readers.
